Summer 2010 is all about partying! Every first Thursday I will be up at the Mandrake doin’ my thing. Come through with your dancing shoes and positive vibes, cause the Summer Slam is going to light up the night.

Here are some images from Dane Johnson’s new show PAPER at the Sabina Lee Gallery in China Town. I have known Dane for a few year now. We go back to my short stint at SFAI where we met though mutual friends. Dane has always been on the up and up when it comes to making art, and I was excited to see what he had put together for his first LA show.
The works consisted of approx. 10 smaller scale paintings on paper and 6 or so larger works on canvas. The subject matter for all the work is used lottery tickets that Dane found in his Hollywood neighborhood.
The attention to detail makes these works unforgettable. The clean graphic design of the tickets was right on, and the expressive scratches turned out very painterly.
I have to say that I was not surprised in the level or professionalism in the work. Dane takes this work seriously, as he should. In the word’s of one of my favorite BBQ rib shacks “Dem folks know what they doin”. I highly suggest checking out this show. It runs till July at the Sabina Lee Gallery.

3 Big parties this week. You heard me. Thursday is the A/V Club as always. I will be dedicating this YouTube set to the one and only Rosanne. You know the business, Mandrake bar 9pm till close. Friday is the 2 year anniversary party at the Forge on the East side. There WILL be a pinata to smash and bands and all sorts of crazy stuff. Saturday I will be making the hike to San Diego to rage at “Crapy Hour” (All bad music from 5 till
